Fire and Ice Light up the Night

Photo: Ramesh Pooran
Into every life a little rain must fall... and so it was that our 5th annual Firelight Lantern Festival parade was cancelled due to weather. However, the rain didn't dampen the spirits of the 600+ people who turned up at Picton's Crystal Palace ready for a party!

This year we commissioned artists Chrissy Poitras and Kyle Topping (Spark Box Studio) and Jennie Suddick (Crazy Dames) to create a maze of 6 interactive installation spaces connecting to our "fire and ice" theme.

The parade is cancelled - but the party's still on!

Rain and lantern parades just don’t mix… so we’ve cancelled our parade down Main Street. But we still have a full evening of magic and wonder that we’ve created especially for you, so grab your lantern (wrapped in a plastic bag, maybe?) and join us at the Crystal Palace! We’ll be waiting to welcome you at 7 PM. (PS – if you are one of our many volunteers, please check your email!)

Are you ready?

Are you ready for the 5th annual Firelight Lantern Festival, Saturday November 18?

We'll be parading through Picton to the Crystal Palace, where we'll have performances and installations to dazzle your senses! Our friends at The Vic Café have got you covered for snacks and bevvies, and yes, this is a licensed event.

*NEW* this year: we've got wristbands! You'll need one at the festival for admission to the Crystal Palace. Skip the line-ups and buy yours in advance at any of our lantern workshops, or at Kelly's Shop or Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce. They're just $5 for adults and $3 for children, or Pay-What-You-Can. Can't get one in advance? They'll also be for sale at Benson Park before the parade, and at the door of the Crystal Palace.

Musical guests this year are Maracatu Mar Aberto, an Afro-Brazilian percussion and song troupe. They are bringing the heat to our "Fire and Ice" themed festival!

If you want to make a lantern for the parade, our community drop-in workshops run until November 12. Bring your lantern to Benson Park before the parade, and we'll provide you with an LED light and a carrying stick. Didn't get a chance to make a lantern? There will be some for sale at Benson Park for $10.

It's $15 and includes a string of LED lights and all other supplies, and is suitable for kids and adults (children will need assistance).
